Our goal is to provide you with real local insights into exploring another part of the world. When I moved here I did plenty of research on the country, and it frustrated me how out of touch with reality many of the blogs and sites by some foreigners were. Over the last few years with more sites popping up things have improved, but I’ve always had it in my mind to provide a real quality option. With the goal of quality over quantity in mind, this site focuses primarily on the area I know and live in–La Fortuna and the Arenal volcano area.

My perspective is influenced by my background. I am not the ‘go find myself in another country’ shoestring budget backpacker nor am I the traditional ex-pat either. I moved to Costa Rica with the goal of helping people; I volunteer my free time providing education and helping out locals while enjoying wonderful views of the majestic Arenal volcano. I’ve been to every corner of town and down every country lane in the area I live. I live like a local in a wood cabin with my Costa Rican wife, and so while I’m definitely not Costa Rican (see photo for proof of that), I understand the area and the people better than most tourist sites you will find. I thus created this website with the goal of teaching people how to be able to be a tourist, but to do so with local insights on the Arenal area.

I’ve helped countless people who have come here with information about the area and planning their trip; perhaps the most difficult part of that was booking tours in advance. Hotels are easy to book and restaurants are abundant. However, most places list the tour prices online at a rack rate that is quite higher than what you could get if you just waited until you got here and booked at a discount tour sales place.
